Keeping Secrets
Parents often believe that it is their responsibility to keep ‘adult’ things hidden from their children. I remember my parents saying that children should never have to worry about grown up stuff – that’s a parent’s job. Do you remember hearing that from your parents? Or, worse yet, were you completely ignored? What we, as parents, fail to take into consideration is that our children were able to sense when something is wrong. Have you ever walked into a room and it seemed like everyone stopped talking? Where did your thoughts immediately go? Most of the time, we tend to think that the conversation was directly about us.
Blending Households
With the cost of living on, what feels like, a continuous rise and wages for most people falling far short of the ‘living range’, many families are choosing to find larger homes and blend generations under one roof. Raising An Authentic Child
What does it mean to be authentic? Dictionary.com defines authentic as:
1. Genuine or Real
2. An origin supported by unquestionable evidence
3. Representing one’s true nature or beliefs; True to oneself
4. Entitled to acceptance or belief; Reliable; Trustworthy
Those born since the mid to late 1980’s are coming into their own authentic nature as they begin to recognize the authenticity of their own children and the young people around them. Today’s authentic children are born meeting everyone of the definitions above. They are meant to, and are capable of, living and teaching others how to live authentically given the chance.
The Science Behind
The School Lunch and Test Score Connection
Abstract
In the writing of this essay, several studies were reviewed to obtain the groundwork, including studies that clearly showed a direct correlation between food quality and learning. Of all the studies identified through the use of the LIRN and Google Scholar databases, none were found that presented information clearly opposing the topic. As a result of the research, a hypothesis was formed showing improved nutrition in school food programs would create an overall increase in standardized test scores by improving the internal learning environment.
